50 Quiz Questions You Should be Asking

Make your own quiz for free using interact

If you’re trying to figure out what questions to ask in order to make a good personality quiz, this is the post for you. I went through the best quizzes we’ve seen built at Interact and found the most common questions that get asked. I use this post myself when making quizzes to get inspiration by scanning through until I see something that makes sense in context of the quiz I’m building.

1. What’s Your Favorite Color?

I use this question as an ice-breaker, towards the beginning of a quiz to get people started. You can gather data from it in terms of what kind of person the quiz taker is as well. For example, neutral colors are more mellow personalities whereas brighter colors are stronger or more assertive people (typically).

2. Where would you like to live?

This question can give you data on how someone likes to live, which ties directly to their personality. A person who wants to live in isolation vs. someone who wants to live in a city are obviously different and you can tie that back into your quiz correlations.

3. What kind of House Would You like to live in?

This question can be positioned to give you lots of information. For example, you can use it to gauge someone’s affinity to luxury by putting pictures of houses in various states of fanciness. It can also be used in combination with the “where would you want to live?” question to get an idea of how someone really wants to carry out their life.

4. How old are you?

I don’t always ask this question, but it can be super useful, especially if your personalities vary based on time. For example, if you are doing a personality quiz on which TV character people are most like and the characters come from different time periods, you’d use this question to point quiz takers towards the period that fits their age.

5. Where would you like to vacation?

I use this one to determine how adventuresome a person is, which is a great jumping-off point for a result that uses adventure as a key indicator.

6. Pick your favorite car

This question can tell you a lot about a person, do they pick the most expensive car of the classiest one or the most well-known? Use this as a money/style question.  Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 12.35.24 PM

7. What’s your favorite food?

Classic quiz question. Great one to put towards the beginning of a quiz and use to get the ball rolling. The selection can be used to inform your quiz results by tying the answer choices to different cultures and preferences.

8. What do you do to relax?

You can learn a lot about someone by seeing what they do when no one is watching. This question lets you behind the scenes of someone’s life so you can see what they prefer to do on their own time.

9. What’s Your Favorite Dessert?

Ah, dessert. Since dessert is not an everyday thing (at least for most people), you can learn a lot about how people like to indulge when given the chance.  Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 1.33.00 PM

10. What are you most passionate about?

A pretty deep question, no doubt, but one that people are willing to answer in a quiz. I love that questions like this actually get answered in quizzes because you can do so much with the data received.

11. What’s Your Dream Job?

Great for career quizzes and educational quizzes where you can use this question to help filter your quiz takers into the correct path based on their life-long goals.

12. Who is your favorite celebrity?

Use this one in a smart way by hand-picking the celebrities so that they represent your quiz results and you can use the personality of the celebrity to help figure out the personality of the person taking your quiz.

13. Which pattern do you like the most?

Works perfectly for any sort of fashion or design quiz. Patterns can be very telling when it comes to someone’s preference for style so pick some polarizing options that will help drive the quiz taker to the right style in your quiz.

14. How would your friends describe you?

The way your friends think of you makes a big difference in terms of how you view yourself. Ask people what their friends would say about them.

15. What’s Most Important to You?

A purposely open-ended question that allows you to gather pertinent information you need to provide good quiz results. For example, in the question below we ask “What’s One Thing You Can’t Live Without?” and the answer choices are somewhat random, but help inform the quiz, which is a style personality quiz.

16. What kind of student were you?

You can discover a lot about a person when you find out who they were in school. For example, if you’ve got a style personality quiz, you can infer that the show-off in school is probably into louder styles.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 1.16.44 PM

17. How would you describe yourself?

This is an important introspective question that I often use to help filter people into different personalities. If someone says “thoughtful” then you know they are more introverted, like calmer things, etc.

18. What is your favorite season?

If someone is “summer” then they like brighter colors and being outdoors, if someone is “winter” they like staying cozy and watching movies. These are generalities, but the idea is that you use the mood of the season to insinuate something about the season that someone chooses.

19. What’s your favorite genre of movies?

Action? Adventure? Romantic? this is very telling about who a person is because movies are a reflection of life and the type of movie you like tells who you are as a person.

20. What motivates you?

Family? Success? Money? Make the options for this question very distinct so you can calculate someone’s interests based on why they do the things they do. Depending on the title of your quiz you can customize the answer choices on this question to help make it engaging.

what motivates you quiz question

21. What was your favorite subject in school?

This one is super versatile because it’s essentially asking “what do you like to learn about the most?” Which you can then correlate to a variety of different personality traits within a quiz.

quiz question what was your favorite subject in school?

22. What type of art do you like?

Modern? Classic? Post-Modern? None? You can tell a lot about someone by what kind of art they like (or don’t like).

23. What’s your favorite weekend activity?

I like this one a lot because you can learn an enormous amount about a person based on their weekend activities. Do they like to go on outdoor adventures? spend time with the family? go out to parties? those things are all super different so adding this question to your quiz can really help to segment your audience down.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 9.25.23 AM

24. What’s your favorite morning drink?

Coffee? Tea? Orange Juice? Just water? This is a great one because it helps you understand someone’s type of drive. If they answer emphatically with coffee they are more of a always-on-the-go type of person, but if they answer is morning tea with the news then they are more of a go-with-the-flow person.

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 6.28.58 PM

25. What’s your favorite alcoholic drink?

Beer or Wine? that’s an age-old debate that you can infer a lot from. Or if someone chooses none of the options that’s also a clear distinction to pay attention to.

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 9.43.19 PM

26. Who would you most like to go to lunch with?

By asking someone who they would like to go to lunch with, you’re actually asking them what type of person they would like to spend time with. If they select someone like Steve Jobs, they are more serious and tech-minded, if they choose someone like Ellen they are more fun-loving and philanthropic.

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 4.07.00 PM

27. What’s your spirit animal?

Ah, the classic. But there is a lot to be gleaned from this. If someone thinks they are a Lion that’s a very different personality from someone who is a Deer. Use this one to add some levity to any quiz while still gathering valuable information along the way.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 9.24.22 AM

28. What’s your favorite snack?

Food, it’s what makes us human. Snacking style is a big deal and you can learn a lot about someone’s choices in snacks. Are they healthy and prefer pretzels and veggie sticks? or do they love some good cheese puffs?

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 3.53.12 PM

29. What is your favorite hobby?

If you’re looking to discover who someone is, go no further than to ask what they do in their free time. Hobbies are a quick way to get right to the point and figure out what someone really enjoys. Because hobbies are something you completely choose, this question can give you even more valuable data than what you studied in school or where you work.

30. What’s your biggest fear?

If you want to get real right away, this is the question to ask. However, it doesn’t have to be a super heavy question, you can add some humor to it so people don’t get turned off by an overly invasive question.

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 6.41.58 PM

31. What’s Your Favorite TV Show?

What someone watches on TV tells you a lot about them. Are they into documentaries? or Comedy? Do they like Drama or prefer Thrillers?

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 4.07.49 PM

32. What’s your favorite board game?

Even better than TV is board games. It’s been said that you can learn more about someone by playing a game with them for an hour than by talking to them for a day – and I for one believe that’s true. The way people play games, and the games they choose to play are very core to the being of that person.

33. Do you like attention?

This is a roundabout way of asking someone if they are introverted or extroverted, which you can learn a ton from. I like to ask it this way rather than going directly to the introverted, extroverted language, because asking it in this manner makes it more about real life rather than using specific terms that people apply different meanings to.

quiz question do you like attention?

34. What size group do you prefer to be in?

This one is another way to find out what kind of personality someone has. Again, because you are asking about real-life situations it’s a more effective question to ask then simply “are you an introvert or an extrovert?” putting things into the context of real-life situations makes things easier. And you can have some fun with it by using groups of animals as your answer choices 🙂

35. Do you like change?

There is actually a version of the classic Myers-Briggs personality quiz  that focuses on change as one of the main determinations of personality type. Knowing whether someone likes change helps you gauge how much they like to take risks versus remain comfortable, and that can help inform a lot about who they are and how they make decisions.

36. What’s your morning routine like?

Early riser? Do you meditate? Getting the kids ready for school? What someone does in the morning tells you an enormous amount about their lifestyle and how they operate. Getting an idea of someone’s morning routine is one of the quickest ways to get straight to the point and determine who the individual really is.

37. How often do you read?

Reading is one of those things that just doesn’t get as much play as it used to. Big readers tend to have a much different view on things than those who rarely pick up a book.

38. What’s your favorite type of weather?

Are you a sunny day person? Or a cloudy-day-curl-up-on-the-couch type of person? There’s definitely a difference between those types of people and you can use that information to decide where someone should live, who they should be around, what kinds of activities they should do, etc.

39. What’s your favorite type of music?

Find out the type of music someone like and you can infer a lot about their personality based on that. Rap music is generally more upbeat, jazz is more mellow, etc.

40. Which celebrities’ style do you like best?

When making style quizzes, one of the easiest ways to determine what kind of style someone likes is to compare celebrity styles that everyone is familiar with. Be careful though, many celebrity images are copyrighted so make sure you own the rights before using anything.

41. Mac or PC?

Love this one because we’ve built up such strong stereotypes about what each of these mean so when you choose one side or the other it actually means something. Typically we associate PC with more analytical and straightforward versus Mac which is creative and artistic.

42. What’s your favorite Friday night activity?

43. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Before life happened and you ended up where you are, what did you want to do? Or in other words, if all the things holding you back disappeared, what would happen to your life? This can be a deep question and certainly helps to really understand where someone is coming from.

Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 12.14.11 PM

44. What’s a perfect date for you?

The way we act when we’re in a situation like dating is often really more of who we really are than we’d think. What I mean is that even though we think of dating as a situation in which we’re putting on a persona in order to appear as the best version of ourselves, sometimes that version of ourselves is more true to who we really are than the way we act in comfortable situations.

45. Are you more outspoken or reserved?

Great question for any type of personality profiling quiz, and it can be used in more serious quizzes as well. With our personality or tallied scoring systems you can use this question to move a quiz taker towards one outcome or you can use it as a very strong indicator by adding a lot of points depending on how they answer.

quiz question are you more outspoken or reserved

46. What’s your favorite social network?

Very telling in terms of personality. Instagram is more creative and picture-heavy, snapchat is more in-the-moment and spontaneous, so on and so forth.

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 4.29.03 PM

48. What inspires you?

This is a super flexible question that fits into almost any quiz. I use it as a way of figuring out what matters most to quiz takers. You can insert pretty much anything into the answer choices which allows you to gather the information you need depending on your unique quiz setup.

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 4.32.25 PM

49. Who would you want to hang out with?

This is a clever way of asking “who do you want to be like?” which gives a strong indication of what kind of aspirations a person has. If the quiz is at all career or education related you can even choose celebrities who have chosen a certain career path or attended a particular school to represent those options.

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 4.35.44 PM

50. What’s Your Favorite Breakfast Food?

I like to work this question in as a way to gauge someone’s health habits as well as routines. For example, if one of the answer choices is “I’m usually to rushed in the morning for breakfast” then you know that person is not someone who is big on routine.

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 4.29.36 PM

51. What are Your Ideal Weekend Plans?

What do you want to do in your off time? What someone picks up when they have their own choice will help determine how they would actually like to live life rather than their work or other places where you don’t really have full freedom of choice.

weekend

52. What’s Your Ideal Work Environment?

Do you like to work alone or with others? Do you prefer to work from home or in an office? These are the types of things that really tell you a lot about someone because work is a huge part of everyone’s life and our preferences in work carry over to who we are as people.
